When Voices of Hope were asked to form the basis of the Queen Symphony Chorus, I expected a bit of a romp through lots of lovely, well known Queen songs. Well it was all of that plus a lot more, and I have actually now fallen a bit in love with it! Big scrumptious romantic themes, virtuosic playing from Royal Northern Sinfonia, and a real beautiful, challenge of a sing! The pianissimo top C's which the sopranos had to pull out of a very dusty, little used bag, were a real challenge and I had a ball playing a game of guess the extra Queen Songs, which were scattered masterfully throughout the Symphony during my moments of quiet.
I do believe that every single person that took part in the performance at Sage Gateshead on Saturday 7th February had one of the best nights of their life! It was a joyful, warm experience tinged with a smidgen of melancholy as it also brought to mind the late, great Mr Mercury. I'm sure he was looking down and was more than happy with the night's events!
Thank you Mr Tolga Kashif and I really hope I get the chance to sing this again. I love it!
